Round three of the enduro WHOOPS UCI MTB World Series and another hard race with six stages in challenging conditions. Vid Peršak had a day of ups and downs, with change of goals during the day. The crash in 2nd stage took too much time for the good overall result, so he focused on the individual stages. Last stage was his best, but still had to settle with 53rd place overall.
Enduro racing in Leogang stretched all the way to slopes above Saalbach-Hinterglemm and offered tons of nice views and great trails, but in the sunny/cloudy conditions after days of rain it also served with tons of slippery and loose traps. Vid got “personal” with two of those sections, especially hard was the crash in the second (the longest) stage that caught him off guard and left him with the mechanical that he was fortunately able to fix. Good overall result went down the drain with so much time lost, for a while so did the moral, but Vid again found his groove and went with full force on the trails on the “Leogang side”. Vid had best result on the very last stage with finish in the event village in Leogang, he was 36ths on this short stage with very small gaps. It’s always better to finish the race on the high note.
“Quite a day that was. Started solid and felt good riding until stage 2 crash took me out pretty. From there on I tried to go for some good stage results but rode a bit to messy. Hard day at the office, but new chance will come soon!” – Vid Peršak
Extra points also go to the organizers for live broadcast of the last stage, hopefully we’ll see more of that in the future.
Vid is now 39th in the overall standings.
